  • 3 tablespoons Our Family® Granulated Sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Our Family® Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Our Family® Kosher Sea Salt
  • ½ cup cold Our Family® Unsalted Butter, cut into ½-inch pieces, plus additional for serving (optional)
  • 1 Our Family® Large Cage Free White Egg
  • 1 ½ cups Our Family® Lowfat Buttermilk
  • ½ cup Sourdough Starter (see recipe)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°. Stack 2 same-sized rimmed baking pans; line with parchment paper. In large bowl, whisk flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking soda and salt; with fingertips, work in butter until small crumbs form.
  2. In medium bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk and starter. Make a well in flour mixture; add egg mixture and stir with wooden spoon until dough just comes together.
  3. On lightly floured work surface, shape into 8-inch round and place on prepared pan. With paring knife, cut “X” in top of dough; sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake bread 40 minutes or until golden brown, toothpick inserted into center of bread comes out clean and bottom sounds hollow when tapped; cool on wire rack 15 minutes.
  4. Serve bread warm cut into 16 wedges with additional butter, if desired.
